How do you use SkillsFuture Credit for a finance or AI course in Singapore?

By Holly Qian, Chartered Accountant (Singapore), ACCA, CIMA · Published · 5 min read

Short answer

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above have S$500 of opening SkillsFuture Credit, and those aged 40 and above also have a S$4,000 Mid-Career credit for selected courses. Neither expires. The course must be listed on the MySkillsFuture portal. Log in with Singpass, find the course and submit your claim online before the course start date.

SkillsFuture Credit is one of the easiest ways to pay for a practical course, but it only works if the course is listed and you claim it the right way. Here is how it works for finance and AI courses, checked against the official MySkillsFuture and TPGateway pages.

Who gets SkillsFuture Credit, and how much

CreditWho gets itAmountExpiry
Opening creditSingapore Citizens aged 25 and aboveS$500Does not expire
Mid-Career creditSingapore Citizens aged 40 and aboveS$4,000Does not expire

The opening credit can be used for any course listed on the MySkillsFuture portal. The Mid-Career credit is narrower: it applies to selected courses such as full qualifications from the institutes of higher learning, career transition programmes and courses aligned to the Progressive Wage Model. From 1 December 2026 it also covers Workforce Skills Qualification full qualifications and selected sector agency-funded courses, for new course runs from that date.

Which finance and AI courses qualify

The rule is simple: the course must be listed on MySkillsFuture. MySkillsFuture states that all courses listed on the portal are eligible for the opening credit. If a course is not listed, you cannot pay for it with SkillsFuture Credit, however useful it is.

On the provider side, courses are only approved for SkillsFuture Credit when they are open to the public, priced on a nett fee basis and skills-related with clear learning outcomes. A course run only for one company's staff does not qualify.

How to claim, step by step

  1. Log in to MySkillsFuture with Singpass and check your credit balance.
  2. Search for the course and check it is listed, with the date you want.
  3. Register with the training provider.
  4. Submit your SkillsFuture Credit claim online before the course start date.
  5. Pay the provider any balance your credit does not cover.

Worked example

A business owner aged 30 wants a half-day course with a fee of S$258. If the course is listed on MySkillsFuture, they can apply their S$500 opening credit: S$258 is covered by the credit, nothing is left to pay, and S$242 of credit remains for another course. If the course is not listed, the full S$258 is paid in cash.

Three things to check before you sign up

Is it really listed?

Search for the exact course on MySkillsFuture rather than relying on an advert. A provider may say it is applying for approval; until the listing appears, the credit cannot be used.

Are you paying for it yourself?

SkillsFuture Credit cannot be used for training your employer sponsors. If your company is paying, it pays the fee directly.

Did you claim before the course started?

Claims are submitted before the course start date. Leaving it until after the class is the most common way to miss out.

Our course for business owners

Our first AI Academy course, Profit Health for Small Business Owners, teaches owners to read their own P&L, work out break-even and the most they can spend on marketing, and check whether an ad campaign pays. It is planned for January 2027 as a half-day class at ACRA House or live online. We are applying for SkillsFuture Credit approval; until it is approved and listed on MySkillsFuture, the course cannot be paid with SkillsFuture Credit. You can sign up now to hear first.
